To continue the sleep training saga, Saturday morning I wrote my post while I was in the middle of the 1am round of cry-it-out with baby girl. It last exactly 2 hours and 15 minutes. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.
Fortunately, she slept until her usual time of 7:30 am, allowing both of us to get a total of 7 hours of sleep last night… plus or minus a half hour. Jason managed to sleep through the second bout of crying, but when he’s super tired he can sleep through anything!
Jason offered to get her in the morning and she was all smiles with him. With me, it felt like she was upset for not bring her to bed with us. Left me feeling like a bad mommy as I waited for her to warm up to me. Had to keep reminding myself it wass too late to quit now…
Last night, while she did go down much quicker (20 minutes total at the 8pm bedtime), she did wake up again to cry at 15 minute intervals through the whole 9pm hour. There was just enough spacing for me to restart the count, but not go up to comfort her as she fell back asleep. This went on until 10pm when I think she just gave up.
I have to admit, I was very happy and extremely grateful that she went to sleep so quickly initially. Yesterday was a rough day with her clearly being overly tired from all the crying she did the night before.
Seeing as we had the potential for a slightly grumpy baby on our hands, I thought it best to keep her busy for the day between her naps, so we took her to breakfast. She smiled and played with these grandparents who we later found out were desperately missing their own grandchildren back in Michigan. Then a quick trip to Kohl’s to try and spend some Kohl’s cash. I didn’t know how naps would work and when she started having a meltdown in the store, we knew it was time to go home.
We had some other activities planned… a craft show, quick visit to friend’s house. Between the hour nap at home and the few naps while driving, I suspect she had a total of 10 hours sleep today – 1 or 2 shy from the sleep goal at her age. My hope was she sleep through the night so we wouldn’t have another sleep deficit today. I was not looking forward to her having any meltdowns at church.
Fortunately (and with a bit of sadness as I fought cry-it-out tooth and nail), baby girl slept a 7 hour stretch last night without one peep (that we heard anyways)! That is the longest she has slept all at once in her whole entire life! I’m going to have to admit it… cry-it-out works.
With that, she’s napping right now and I’m beat as well. So I’m off to nap too…
I’ll have a Day 3 update for you tomorrow! Enjoy what’s left of your weekend!
