Buy Pink and Save a Life!

Earlier this week, Angela from Pavoreal invited me to the Passionately Pink for the Cure Flickr Group. I have been so busy getting ready for the holidays that I totally flaked on adding any of my pictures to the group.

It got me to thinking about my aunt, Sarah, who passed away from radiation-aggravated pneumonia. While she wasn’t my aunt by family, she certainly was in spirit… and that’s something she had a lot of being a 4 time cancer survivor and a mastectomy recipient.

Despite all the sadness in her life, she was the rock of our families. As an inspiration, she was such a driving force that a few years ago, I even did a Team in Training event where I raised over $1600 for cancer research while I trained to skate an 80+ mile trek from Athens to Atlanta. I figured if she could live with cancer and triumph, I could deal with the blister pain and lethargia I was certain to sustain for weeks after the event.

I never got to finish the event. (Once you start doing 26 miles on a daily basis, it takes a toll on your body and my body wasn’t quite ready for it.) But I did raise the money, of which I’m very proud. Now, I’m feeling the need to donate again, but this time I can go about it a little differently. For the month of October, I will be donating all the proceeds of any items with pink sold to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

Oh, and back to the flickr group… In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Yahoo! is donating $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for each pink photo added to the Passionately Pink for the Cure pool up to $50,000. So get to adding your photos now! That’s where I’m heading…
