The Curse of “Not Quite Right”

Time is running out. I have a little over a week before I make a trip to California. I’ll be there a whole week and come back with just another week before the Christmas at Central Park show. With so many things going on, I haven’t had a chance to be as prepared as I had hoped. Still on my list of to-dos:

* Review ribbon choices at Joanne’s
* Pick up table cloth and add trim to borders to match company colors
* Purchase necklace stands
* Clean my inventory
* Retag my inventory
* Change my credit card processor and setup their software on my PDA
* Rework images for Trunkt profile update
* Oh and of course, MAKE MORE JEWELRY!

Let me not forget the myriad of other things one always feels the need to get done to when they travel such as, do all the laundry in the house, balance the checkbook, recycling and garbage drop off, enlist sitter for the pooch, tie up loose ends at work, etc…

In an attempt to whittle down my list, last night’s obsession was a meager attempt to find appropriate necklace stands. I noticed a lack of height in my displays and for some reason have this mental image of really tall necklace stands that I could place behind my earring platforms on the tables. I must have seen something like that at a show recently, but can’t remember the specifics for the life of me.

Sarah of BeadGal Designs was so kind as to take a moment from her pre-bridal whirlwind and help me search the ‘net for possible solutions. Of all that we found, they were too short for what I wanted to do. Finally, after 20+ pages of Google search results and many repeats of the same stand designs, I broke down. Doubling up lengthier necklaces and placing the stands on a base no longer seemed like a bad idea. Not quite what I wanted, but anything to move a little closer to my goal of scratching off something from my list last night was welcomed.

Yet here I am, with my list still intact. Now you might be asking why. As it turns out, I’m either a cheapskate or frugal. (Honestly, I’d like to think of myself as frugal.) ;)

Most of the stands we looked at were in the $10-$15 range. Since I need to buy two, that was perfectly acceptable to me. Especially since the stands I have I just bought them last year and I’m ready to get rid of them. However, my mom always said that I had fine tastes and that I would always find the most expensive item in a store. Sure enough, the stand style that I like (pictured above) is one of the more expensive ones out there at double the price of the typical stands. /sigh So what’s a girl to do?

Anyhow, I clearly need to move on to something else today and maybe revisit this later. But come hell or high water, I’m crossing something off my list today. I just have to!

    What about using some existing stands and putting them behind the earring displays on boxes to add height (like the nice ‘gift’ boxes from the dollar shop).

    glad to be of service :D
