The many faces of therapy

Today was my first physical therapy session. It was awfully interesting to discuss Bell’s Palsy, how it occurs, and what they can do about it with the therapist. Being with her and reviewing everything made me feel so overwhelmed. Yea, I shed a few tears. Even so, I found it rather nice and comforting.

I also had electro-stem shock therapy on my face. Is it possible to have something so uncomfortable be comforting at the same time? That’s how I felt about it. Little prickles on my face from the electricity, yet I was just so happy to feel something other than my heavy muscle hanging limply.

Day 33.366 Time to make a face

So what you see above…these are my homework assignments. I have another session on Friday. Between now and then, I get to make a ton of funny faces. I might do one session tonight, but I’m actually really tired from the day’s session. The therapist said I would be. That it’s easy to tire out the face muscles.

However, there is good news:

  • The soreness I’m feeling in my face means that my cell stems are working on repairing themselves.
  • There is movement in all 5 motor nodes on my face.
  • While rare to have it happen on both sides, I still only had one of my nerves get injured.

I definitely have a grateful heart tonight.

Congrats on your first session! My father got diabetes induced BP a couple of years ago and I know how rough it was for him.
