Insanity Update – Week 5

On August 15, 2012 by Yazmin

After these last 4 weeks of the Insanity workout, week 5 was a spring breeze. 6 days of Core Cardio and Balance – a workout based on controlled movements – was right up my alley.

It was a hard workout the first day, but by the sixth day, I was an accomplished core cardio and balancer!

I am so proud of my results! There was one jumping exercise requiring you use a spot on a wall or a point to focus on, trying to jump and touch it. I used a beam in the house separating our foyer from the office, where I’ve worked out these past weeks.

Beam I Touched!

Beam I Touched!

I’m about 5’5″, so touching the beam felt impossible the first few days. The following days, one or the other of my hands would touch the beam once during the workout. But on the last day, I managed to touch the jump target beam… not once, not twice, but 4 times! Granted, two of those times were with a single hand, but the other two where with both my hands! So exciting to see myself do what I once thought impossible!

Have you done anything recently you thought impossible at first?

Insanity Fit Test Results

Tuesday I finished my third Fit Test. Check out this fantastic improvement:

Insanity Fit Test Results
Move August 2011 Day 1 Day 15 Day 30
Switch Kicks 87 51 57 62
Power Jacks 25 33 46 57
Power Knees 93 90 95 107
Power Jumps 20 16 28 35
Globe Jumps 6 6 7 9
Suicide Jumps - - 6 8
Push-Up Jacks - - 1 1
Low Plank Oblique 15 16 20 22

I still can’t do what I consider a solid push-up jack. I’ve managed to not cave to my knees when I lower my body, but I’m still not going low enough to consider it a full push-up jack. I guess all those years in the military won’t let my mind get away with a weak-sauce push up of any kind.

For my first fit test, I burned 136 calories. For my second fit test, I burned 163 calories. This third fit test, I burned 174 calories and hit my upper limit on my heart rate monitor three times. I was working it!

Weight Loss

As you know from the last update, I allowed the infamous birthday week to sabotage my weight loss efforts. This past week, one of my goals was to not eat more than my food budget allowed.

Calorie Journal – Week 5

A few days, I did eat some of my exercise calories, but on the last day of the week, I ended up eating 44 calories over my daily budget. I was so close! Considering how well I did for the week though, I’m not too bummed about it.

And guess what? It paid off! This week, I lost the calories I gained these past two weeks, plus one more to boot, for a total loss of 3.4 pounds!

This brings my weight loss to 10.6 pounds total! Woot!

My Current Motivation

Ever sit in an airplane seat and find yourself rubbing up on other people? Well, yea. That feeling you just had is how I feel about it myself. My (hubby’s) little sister is getting married in October which means we’re taking another trip to California and I REALLY do not want to feel like a sardine stuffed in a can in the airplane seat.

Sitting between my husband and the girl’s car seat on an airplane is not a comfortable position for 5 hours. I’m really working on losing another 10 pounds before the trip. My hope is that 20 pounds makes enough of a difference to make the trip a little more comfortable for me and the hubby, who is large man by nature.

What’s your current motivation?
