Light. Meet Tunnel. Insanity Update – Week 7

On August 30, 2012 by Yazmin

Yes!

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I can actually look at my calendar and in one screen see how many days I have left with the Insanity workout.

Can I tell you how glad I am to have only 2 weeks left of Insanity? I think I’m a little tired of doing the same moves over and over… Or rather, trying to do the same moves over and over just to fail at most.

This second half of the workout has been hard. As for obstacles, my stomach still gets in the way of many of the moves. And just this week, I finally understood first-hand why people with knee troubles can’t do this workout. Advil has been my best friend.

Enough with my griping! Here are my results so far:

Weight Loss

It seems I really did lose the weight from the week before, but I was messing up my weight loss tracking by weighing in right after I finished my weekend. I moved the weigh-in day back to before the weekend starts – to allow for any splurging – and ended up with a nice loss of 5.8 lbs. That’s the 2.6 I gained from the week before, plus an extra 3.2 loss. Very exciting indeed!

Fit Test Results

Week 8 started with a Fit Test and since it is a measure of how much you have improved the weeks earlier, I’m going to share the results with you now.

Insanity Fit Test Results
Move August 2011 Day 1 Day 15 Day 30 Day 45
Switch Kicks 87 51 57 62 58
Power Jacks 25 33 46 57 59
Power Knees 93 90 95 107 107
Power Jumps 20 16 28 35 40
Globe Jumps 6 6 7 9 9.75
Suicide Jumps - - 6 8 9
Push-Up Jacks - - 1 1 5
Low Plank Oblique 15 16 20 22 24

No major fitness improvements this test. In fact, I did less Switch Kicks than the test prior.

I have a theory.

When you first start the program, and you’re overweight enough, like me, you just can’t do the moves correctly. Your body gets in the way. Too much belly. Not enough flexibility. Whatever – you name it. You just do the best you can.

As you go through the weeks go by, you get better, you learn how to do the moves better… correctly… and it affects how many you can do and how fast you can do them.

For me, I am finally doing my Switch Kicks so that I can really kick my legs up to waist level. And I did 58 of those suckers. That’s only 4 less than last week. Still 7 more than my first day. But this week, they were better.

After pushing it so hard with the first exercise of the Fit Test, the rest of my test was seriously tough. I managed to squeak out a few more on most things… I even got 4 more solid Push-Up Jacks. That’s an improvement and I’ll take my victories where I can get them.

Measurements

Since I had a Fit Test, I thought it was time to do measurements again.

Measurements
Body Part 6/30/2012 7/27/2012 8/30/2012 +/-
Arms 13.5r 13.5l 13.5r 13.5l 13.5r 13.5l -
Rib Cage 40 38 35 -5
Waist 45 43 42.5 -2.5
Hips 50 50 50 -
Thighs 27.5r 28l 27r 27l 27r 27.5l -1

While my clothing does feel like it is looser, the measurements don’t seem to show my losses. I suspect the inches lost in my waist make me feel like I’m losing weight. It allows my pants to sag so I have to pick them up at the waist throughout the day.

I’m happy for the loss in my belly. Just wish my hips would catch up.

I really want to sit in the airplane seat without feeling like a sardine…

How is your progress coming along?
