Motivation Wednesday: Noticing Changes

On July 18, 2012 by Yazmin

I’m horrible when it comes to seeing the changes in my body while working out. I tend to rely heavily on the scale, even though I know the number is not the end all, be all of my fitness journey. Anyone else like that?

It takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends to notice and 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice. Give it 12 weeks. Don't quit!

So, this Saturday when I received a compliment from a friend who noticed I lost weight, my mind immediately downplayed it and negative thoughts started flying.

“It’s probably just your new clothing. Fitted clothing always makes you look slimmer.”

“Oh, she’s just being nice since I haven’t seen her in a while.”

“She can’t possibly be serious. I still look the same.”

“Why are you even bothering? You should just quit.”

Why I went there, I couldn’t tell you. I should have been happy and excited someone noticed my hard work. Instead, my thoughts spiraled downward… and then I snapped out of it and moved on for the time being.

Tell me, how do you deal with the negative thought attacks?
