Start of My Container Garden – Part II

On July 2, 2012 by Yazmin

Last weekend, I mentioned I started my container garden. Turns out I don’t have a black thumb after all!

I was worried about leaving my little garden, especially my tomato plant, in my husband’s hands while I was down in Florida. He was a good gardener, though, and took care of my garden. I was pretty happy to see it had grown like a weed!

There was even one little tomato almost ready to pick!

While the tomato plant thrived, my heavily pinched cilantro plant was left to bud.

I suspect the flavor has changed, so I’m looking at buying one or two more cilantro starter plants to place in another empty planter begging for use. Not to mention, the tomato plant is probably suffocating the cilantro. Need a bigger container next time.

The basil; however, was heavily pinched as well, but returned to its thriving state quickly. The leeks look like they’re just fine, too.

Although, I’m starting to wonder if I should have planted the leeks in a deeper pot, since they are longer type veggies.

As for the parsley and two sprouted garlic bulbs I sneaked in right before my trip, the garlic I suppose is doing just fine, while the parsley is getting eaten by something.

I just don’t know what is eating it, though. I don’t see any little friends, so maybe it’s sneaky caterpillar… And what’s up with all the little white spots?

First Harvest!

First Harvest!

Oh! Oh! Oh! Of course, I can’t skip showing you my first harvest! (Notice my wilted tomato plant in the background. It’s been hot these days!) Remember the tomato from the first picture in this post? As I watered the plant, I checked the tomato and it dropped into my hand! It was delish.

I feel so accomplished. : )

Anyone else having success with their container garden?
