The Bromeliad Cascades – Amethyst, Pink Pearl and Opal Chandelier Earrings…Reminiscent of beautiful bromeliad cascades, these absolutely gorgeous earrings remind of a flower garden in full bloom. With two jaw dropping onion brio focals totaling over 20 carats worth of flawless and beautifully faceted AAA Amethyst, these earrings are not for the faint of heart. Hovering below is a bed of faceted Amethyst rounds and pink dyed button pearls, with a beautiful pink Peruvian Opal faceted barrel bead. All of these beautiful components are securely handwired to a wire wrapped frame and hang from handshaped vermeil earwires.

Due to the size of the Amethysts, these earrings are more on the heavy side weighing in at approximately 1.25 ounces each.

What I realized is that I truly miss making jewelry. Sitting there in-between customers, I had the chance to work on a new piece and it was a great. Wrapping the wire around the frame I hammered into submission, selecting stones to match and putting it all together. It was as if I was still making jewelry on an everyday basis. It was as if all the creativity I thought I had lost was still right there.

Should I make this a necklace or earrings?

So I’ve decided that I’m just going to have to make time weekly to create. Now, just to add two more hours to the day…Everyone’s up for 26 hour days, right?

A simple dowel, you say? Why, yes…it is! It slices and dices and…oh wait, wrong tool…

As you can see, I’ve customized the dowel with plenty of little sharpie marks to help me create different types of earwires. In addition (although not seen in this picture), the dowel has a hole drilled from one side to the other for wire anchoring purposes. While my dowel is simple, it has helped me create wonderfully fantastic pieces like these:

I couldn’t have made any of them nearly as beautiful without my dowel. I can’t be the only dowel lover here…or is your favorite tool quite different?

I’m definitely liking the colors in the “after” shots much better.

Sometimes I even pull out older pieces and then get this desire to redo or embellish them even more. This is one of those pieces that brings out that feeling in me.

Anyone else ever feel the same? If you have and you’ve redone a piece, I’d love to see before and after pictures. I think it would be interesting to compare…

However, watching my husband finish off this mile high ice cream cake slice that the waitress bet him double or nothing on her tip money that he could not eat was definitely an event…for another post though…

Last night was a magical time of flurries and fresh snow. If you live in Georgia, you know how rare it is to get such heavy flurries…enough to cap everything in sight. It was truly beautiful and this type of weather is never lost on me. Snow just makes me feel like a kid all over again.

So quickly, I thought I’d show you a custom order based off my Turquoise and Carnelian Cluster Bracelet. However, instead of sterling silver, this one is in 14kt gold-filled components:

I call it the “Alter Ego”. Isn’t it lovely?

On the 10th Day of Holiday Deals...First Earrings of 2009Gift Giving Tips for Jewelry

I’ve already made a pendant component with one of the tassels. This mother of pearl black shell disc was selected specifically for it’s yellowish tones. Around it, I created a secure frame accented with gold-filled rounds, to which I attached the tassel. It came out quite nice. I’m just waiting for my order of chain to come in this month to finish of the piece.

However, I have these other tassels that aren’t all nice and straight like the first one I used. I don’t want to throw them away because they are rather nice and can be much more so if tamed. Does anyone know how I would go about straightening tassels?
