Well…not that I wrote a book or anything, but a while back, Julie of On the Dot Creations was asking for Etsy sellers to submit business tips that have helped them along. If she used your tip, she would make mention of you in the e-book.

Since then, I did close my Etsy shop. However, it turns out that my tip is one of the ones she used in the e-Book! This is what I had sent in:

“Taking photographs that show the true colors of your items can be a difficult task.  One trick that can help is to add an element of pure black and pure white to the photo frame when photographing the item (a piece of paper will work fine).  Later, when you open up your photo in editing software, the program will be able to color correct your photos.  Be sure to crop out the white and black elements, though.”

Well, seasons change, new people come, others go. As the time passed, I found myself less involved with Etsy and of course less noticed, which translated into no front page features, that I knew of. That can really get to a girl’s ego.

Last week I made mention of how I was able to generate so much blog press about my sale. I promised I would talk about it this week and since my week is almost over, I figured I should get to that now. :)

I read someplace once that if you want your product to be remembered, you need to present it to your target market at least 5 times before they actually start remembering you. (If anyone can confirm or deny that, please let me know. I can’t seem to find my source for that anymore.)

Seems like a lot, doesn’t it? When you think about it, most of the time you only have one shot, whether that be your website’s landing page, a random blog post, or when someone walks by you at a show and something catches their eye. Not much room left for error with first impressions.

To that end, I developed a simple marketing plan. If you’re familiar with my 101 List, you’ll see one of my goals is to submit my website to at least 4 different blogs for a write up once a month. Last month, I did just that and went a bit overboard, submitting to over 50+ blogs. (Blog submission is just one of the items on my marketing plan. I’ll talk about that some other time.)

Now, I think my little secret is pretty clear: self-promotion. It’s as simple as that. Open your mouth, or in this case, whip our your keyboard and get to talking. I absolutely know this is why I was lucky enough to have all these wonderful blog mentions on my sale. Had I not touted my own horn (which is okay to do as a business), I don’t believe any of these blogs would have known about what was going on at my site.

So, don’t be shy. You want people to know you exist? Then blow your own horn here and there.

How about you? Do you find when you talk about your product, there seems to be more interest?

Earlier this week, I went and bought a large chunk of my hubby’s favorite fudge from Parson’s…chewy praline. Yummy caramel laced with walnuts and sandwiched between two creamy layers of fudge…it is to die for. It only comes second to cheesecake praline for me – same thing with white fudge.

My idea was to cut the chunk into smaller bite size hearts using a cookie cutter. I was never able to find one small enough and I’m not good at drawing, so I took the block and shaved it into one huge heart. (Come to think of it, I could have just printed some hearts out on paper and used them to trace the design on the fudge. Oh well.) The extra shavings were cut into bite size pieces and put in the freezer for later consumption. hehe

Other than that, we will be staying home tonight. I’m making him my chicken salad sandwich for dinner, something he’s been craving since he’s trying to reduce his cholesterol. I’ll probably pick up some ice cream since that’s his favorite sweet. For me, there’s an icebox cheesecake from Publix waiting patiently in the fridge. Yum.
